1. Start with an Easy bot match
- Open Play Hood Warfare and press Start an Easy match. The homepage Play now button also starts Easy Team Deathmatch.
- If the block is still loading, tap Start once and wait for the connection. Keep the tab visible; a ready screen may wait for you if you switch away.
- Follow the first-round prompts: move, look, and fire. You join the Blue or Red crew with bot teammates and opponents.
Easy is the default starting point. Bots react more slowly, giving you time to learn the street. Standard and Hard increase bot pressure without changing player health or weapon damage. Change mode or bot difficulty in the start menu when you want a different match.
2. Learn the controls you need first
| Action | Keyboard and mouse | Phone or tablet |
|---|---|---|
| Move | W A S D | Push the left MOVE pad |
| Look | Move mouse; drag if pointer lock is unavailable | Drag the right LOOK area |
| Shoot | Hold left click | Hold FIRE |
| Aim | Hold right click | Toggle AIM |
| Reload | R | Tap RELOAD |
| Switch equipped guns | 1 / 2 / 3 | Tap GUN |
| Sprint / jump / crouch | Shift / Space / Ctrl or C | RUN / JUMP / CROUCH |
Click the canvas on desktop so the game receives your keys. If pointer lock is unavailable, drag with the left mouse button or turn with the arrow keys. On a phone, you can move, look, and fire with multiple fingers. Landscape gives the controls more space, while portrait also works. Use a current browser with WebGL 2 and hardware acceleration.
3. Make your first 30 seconds count
- Move away from the spawn screen and follow a teammate toward the street. Spawn protection ends when you fire or leave the protected area.
- Look for the opposite crew: red enemies if you are Blue, blue enemies if you are Red. Friendly fire is disabled.
- Use the Carbine first. Fire short bursts and aim for more precise shots. Moving and jumping increase spread; the sniper especially rewards aiming.
- A white hit marker confirms a hit. When the magazine is empty, press R or tap RELOAD, then stay behind a car or low wall until it refills.
- If defeated, wait four seconds. You return with full health, ammunition, and your equipped guns. Try another route instead of repeating the same exposed push.
4. Win the mode you selected
| Mode | How your crew scores | Win condition |
|---|---|---|
| Team Deathmatch | One team point per enemy defeat | 30 team kills; otherwise the higher total at 3:00 |
| Turf War | Hold capture point A for 1.5 points per second | 150 team points; otherwise the higher total at 3:00 |
A tied final total is a draw. In Turf War, a clean capture takes four seconds. When both crews occupy the circle, the point is contested and stops scoring. Kills create room to take the point, but do not directly add turf points. Personal scoreboard points are different: 100 per kill, 250 per capture, and 5 per full second in the objective.
5. Choose guns and earn skins between matches
Open Armory in the start menu. You begin with the Carbine, Breacher shotgun, and Marksman rifle. Complete eligible Solo or Public matches to build reputation, then unlock the Sidearm, Street SMG, Heavy AR, and Bolt Sniper. Choose three different unlocked weapons before a match; keys 1, 2 and 3 select those slots. Unlocking a gun makes it free to equip. There is no round cash shop or death fee.
Each gun has five cosmetic skins. Claim check-ins on 1, 3, and 7 total days to earn three finishes; missing a day does not reset your total. Two other skins require 5 or 10 kills with the same gun in one completed eligible match, with at least 30 seconds played. Local practice and private friend rooms do not earn progression. Inspect any finish on your character in 3D, then equip an earned one. Skins never change damage, accuracy, or health.

6. Bring a friend when you know the basics
At the menu, expand Invite friends, join a room, or change your name. Press Invite friends to create a custom room. Copy the invite link and send it to your crew. Friends choose a display name and press Join your friend before the host starts. Up to eight human players can join.
The host can keep everyone together against bots or split the teams, move individual players, and toggle bot fill. Odd-sized groups work. Pure human matches need someone on each side. Private friend matches keep their own scoreboard and do not add public leaderboard or armory progression.
If loading, controls, or a room gets stuck
Give the initial game download time to finish, keep the tab visible, and check that your browser supports WebGL 2. After a failed connection, return to the menu and try Start again. Brief network interruptions attempt to reconnect to the same character; movement stops while reconnecting. Opening the menu pauses local practice, while online matches keep running.
An invite cannot admit a new player after the match has begun. Ask the host for the next room if the link is closed, full, or already playing. Do not post a private room link publicly unless you want anyone who sees it to join.
Is this the Steam game?
No. hoodwarfare.app is an independent browser FPS with original brick-built characters, Rail Block, its own rules, and web friend rooms. Trapstar Games’ Hood Warfare and Hood Warfare 2 on Steam are separate products. Steam purchases, friends, reputation, and weapon skins do not transfer here.
Frequently asked questions
How do I play Hood Warfare for free?
Open Play and choose Start an Easy match. The browser edition is free and requires no account or download. It is separate from the paid Steam titles.
Can I play Hood Warfare on my phone?
Yes. Use MOVE, LOOK, and FIRE with the touch buttons for aiming, jumping, sprinting, crouching, reloading, and weapon switching. A current WebGL 2 browser is required.
What is the best first weapon?
Start with the Carbine: its 30-round magazine and steady fire make it an accessible all-round choice. Try the Breacher close to cover and aim carefully with the Marksman.
Do gun skins make you stronger?
No. Skins only change appearance. Earned finishes leave damage, accuracy, health, reload time, and movement unchanged.
